For older adults seeking emotional balance, stress relief, and cognitive vitality, virtual wellness spaces are becoming a popular option. At PSS Life! University, Reiki Master, Certified Sound Healing Practitioner, and Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP) Boshko Boskovic leads a bi-weekly online class combining Reiki, sound meditation, and gentle movement. We sat with him to learn more about this intriguing practice.
“Whether I’m working with someone individually or guiding a group, I believe that creating a welcoming and peaceful environment is an important part of the experience,” he said. “Everything matters, from the music playing as people arrive to the way I arrange my instruments and prepare the space. For me, it’s about creating an atmosphere where people feel comfortable, supported, and able to let go of the outside world for a little while.”
Through his private practice, Let’s Heal NYC, Boskovic brings a grounded, integrative approach to older-adult care, offering both in-person and 60-minute virtual sessions designed to calm the nervous system, release energy blockages, and help participants reconnect with their inner core.
From Contemporary Art Curator to Integrative Healing Practitioner
Boskovic’s path to the healing arts is rooted in a rich personal and professional evolution. Originally from Belgrade, Serbia, and a U.S. resident for over 25 years, he initially built a successful 17-year career in contemporary art as an international curator and gallery director.
“My background in contemporary art has had a wonderful influence on how I approach Reiki and sound meditation,” he said. “In the art world, the way something is presented—the space, lighting, colors, and arrangement—can deeply influence how we experience it. I bring that same attention to detail into my healing practice.”
His trajectory shifted toward wellness in 2018 when an encounter with a former high school teacher in Belgrade introduced him to Reiki as a practical tool for nervous system regulation and self-care. Seeking to address his own health needs, including a thyroid imbalance, Boskovic also began exploring sound healing and vocal toning to cultivate balance. In early 2019, Boskovic began formal Reiki training at Minka Brooklyn. There, he earned certification as a Reiki Master alongside a sound healing certification from the Globe Institute in Sausalito, Calif.
Later that year, he stepped away from his full-time gallery position and spent months caregiving for his mother in Serbia. He returned to New York deeply committed to energy work. Applying the organizational discipline from his art management background, he embarked on a self-imposed internship, offering sessions to friends, volunteering at community clinics like the Jewish Community Center and Maha Rose, and building a dedicated practice.
The PSS Life! University Class: A Virtual Oasis for Seniors
When the pandemic prompted senior centers across New York City to transition online, Boskovic adapted his group work for virtual environments. His bi-weekly online classes for PSS Life! University have since continued. These carefully structured 60-minute group sessions are designed specifically for older adults. Boskovic frequently describes these sessions as a gentle “tune-up” for the body.
“I find that Reiki and sound meditation complement each other beautifully,” he said. “Both invite us to slow down, relax, and reconnect with ourselves, but they approach this in different ways … In our PSS class, we begin with simple sound practices, including gentle humming and vocal exercises. Our minds are often busy, and our bodies can hold tension from everyday life. Using our own voice, along with mindful breathing, can be a wonderful way to settle the mind and encourage relaxation.
“Once we’ve had an opportunity to unwind, we move into approximately 15 minutes of Reiki meditation. This is a quieter part of the class, where participants can simply rest, listen to soothing background music, and experience a sense of stillness. I think of sound as a way of preparing us to become more present, while Reiki offers an opportunity to deepen that experience of relaxation and inner calm.”
Dedication to Elder Care and Memory Wellness
Boskovic’s work with PSS is part of a broader commitment to elder wellness and memory care. As a Certified Dementia Practitioner, he facilitates specialized sound and energy therapy programs across New York, collaborating with organizations such as the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA), Coterie Hudson Yards, Coler Hospital, and Weill Cornell Medicine. Maintaining an active presence across New York City, he holds group sound baths at the 14th Street Y and Grand Street Healing Project, serves as community Reiki manager at Minka Brooklyn, and is a co-founder of the sound-healing collective )) R.I.S.E. (( (Reiki-Infused Sound Experiences), which released the debut album Waves of Possibility.
Authentic Presence and the Power of Connection
At the heart of Boskovic’s teaching philosophy is a commitment to authenticity. In working with older adults, he emphasizes treating every participant as a whole person, approaching each class as a space of mutual dignity and shared healing. Through his own daily personal self-Reiki, grounding routines, and work on energetic boundaries, Boskovic maintains the clarity required to serve as a supportive vessel for others.
“One of my favorite practices is something very simple that anyone can try at home: combining a gentle breath with an audible sigh,” Boskovic said. “Sit comfortably, take a slow, easy breath in through your nose, and as you exhale, let out a relaxed ‘ahhh’ sound. Allow your shoulders to soften and notice how your body feels. Repeat this a few times, without forcing your breath or voice. It’s a lovely way to release some of the tension we accumulate throughout the day. You don’t need any special equipment, and it only takes a minute or two. What I hope participants take away from my classes is the understanding that caring for ourselves doesn’t always require a lot of time. Sometimes, a few moments of conscious breathing and sound can help us feel more grounded and at ease.”
What Would He Say to Skeptics?
For someone attending a Reiki and sound meditation session for the very first time or anyone who might be hesitant or skeptical, Boskovic offers this advice:
“Simply come with an open mind and a little curiosity. You don’t need to know anything about Reiki or meditation, and there’s no right or wrong way to experience the class.
“What I especially want people to know is that this is a welcoming, gentle class where you can participate at your own pace. You don’t need to believe in anything in particular or have any previous experience. Just come as you are and give yourself permission to enjoy a little time devoted entirely to your own well-being.”
For participants at Life U, Boskovic’s bi-weekly online class offers a restorative space where sound, energy work, and mindful movement converge to foster peace, vitality, and connection.
