Gifts of Stock, Insurance Policies or Retirement Accounts

Many of our supporters would like to ensure that future generations of older New Yorkers can receive the quality services that PSS provides. You can too! And it’s as easy as signing your name. Simply name “PSS – Presbyterian Senior Services” as a beneficiary of nearly any financial account you own, such as a retirement account, insurance policy or bank / brokerage account.

How You Benefit

  • Your gift costs you nothing now. You retain control of your assets during your lifetime.
  • You can change your mind and modify your gift if circumstances change, by simply requesting a new form.
  • Your gift may allow you to save on taxes or reduce the tax burden for your heirs.
  • Your gift can remain anonymous, if you choose.
  • You will be remembered as someone who made life better for other older New Yorkers.

How It Works

You don’t even need a will to leave a gift by beneficiary designation. Simply name “PSS – Presbyterian Senior Services” as the beneficiary, or a partial beneficiary, of any account such as:

  • STOCK BROKERAGE / BANK ACCOUNTS OR CERTIFICATES OF DEPOSIT
Consider naming the PSS as the beneficiary of a certificate of deposit, other bank or brokerage account.
  • LIFE INSURANCE POLICIES
Life insurance can be used for charitable giving in several ways:
    • Designate PSS as a beneficiary of an existing life policy or insurance annuity. Although there is no immediate tax benefit, it is easy, involves no fees, and can be changed any time.
    • Donate a paid-up whole-life policy. Name PSS as policy owner and beneficiary to receive a tax deduction equal to the cash surrender value or cost basis, whichever is less.
    • Donate a non-paid-up whole-life policy. When you name PSS as owner and beneficiary, you can elect to continue paying premiums. You can deduct the cash surrender value and take future deductions for gifts to PSS for premium payments.
  • RETIREMENT ACCOUNTS
Leaving a gift to the PSS through your retirement plan account (such as an IRA) is one of the most tax-wise gifts you can make. Most retirement plans are taxed differently than other funds. By leaving those gifts to the PSS and other less tax-burdened assets to your family, you can do more for your loved ones.
  • DONOR-ADVISED FUNDS
If you have one, you can name the PSS as the beneficiary of donations remaining in your donor-advised fund after your lifetime.

Three Simple Steps
Just follow these simple steps to complete your gift by beneficiary designation:

  • CONTACT your retirement plan administrator, bank, broker or insurance company and request a beneficiary designation form. This form—not your will—determines how these assets are distributed.
  • WRITE IN “PSS – Presbyterian Senior Services” as the beneficiary [or a partial beneficiary] using our federal tax identification number: 13-1981482 and current business address:
2095 BROADWAY RM 409 NEW YORK, NY 10023.
If the form asks for a date of birth, use our date of incorporation: January 1, 1962
  • SIGN THE FORM AND RETURN it to your plan administrator. Keep a copy for your records.
