Kate Durket, J.D., was raised in Juneau, Alaska, became a court interpreter for deaf people, studied law and worked as a disabilities attorney, and ran the Iditarod. Her family raised German Shepherds as seeing-eye dogs. In between, she rescued and raised a wolf pup, and ran the Iditarod with 20 dogs from Anchorage to Nome.

As an attorney, Durket also spent time in Washington, D.C., where she lobbied for those who could not advocate for themselves. On one trip, she met President Obama’s Chief of Staff Rahm Emanual. As a result of this meeting, she became part of a 100-person task force helping to provide a framework for the Affordable Care Act.
