Caregiver Webinar: Medical Debt: What To Do, When To Do It And How To Handle Debt Collectors
With the high cost of medical treatment, many cancer patients are at risk of incurring huge debt. Manhattan caregivers join us for this presentation where we will focus on steps that can be taken prior to treatment to avoid, or reduce the amount of, out-of-pocket medical costs. It will include the rights of patients faced with substantial hospital bills and provide information that will assist in negotiations with hospitals and medical providers. For patients whose debts have been sent to collections, there will be advice about their rights under the debt protection law. In either case, knowledge of legal rights can increase the ability to negotiate from a position of strength. Sponsored by NYU Family Support Program. Cancer patients and survivors may face particular legal challenges in the workplace or when seeking employment. This may raise questions such as: “Who needs to know about my diagnosis – and how much should I tell?” “Could I lose my job if I take time off for treatment or recovery?” “How much time off can I take?” “What if I need help to do my job when I return?” Manhattan caregivers join us for this 1-hour presentation where we will outline the applicable laws, explain your rights and options and provide guidance on requesting what you need. Knowing your rights may help protect you from discriminatory and unlawful actions in the workplace. Sponsored by NYU Family Support Program.
