The exhibition What About Age? explores ageism, a pervasive form of discrimination impacting everyone. It examines the stereotypes, attitudes, and behaviors directed at individuals based on age, while also investigating the structural aspects of ageism within American laws, policies, and culture.

The exhibition delves into the healthcare costs associated with ageism and how media influences perceptions of aging. A key theme questions why society emphasizes loss with age rather than gains.

Curated by Stacey Gordon of NYU’s Work Life office, the exhibition aims to highlight ageism’s negative impacts on individuals, workplaces, and society. It seeks to spark reflection on ageist thoughts and behaviors, ultimately promoting a shift in collective views on aging both within and beyond NYU.

Artwork by Aubrey Hirsch illustrates ageist scenarios, primarily focusing on older adults due to the more severe consequences they face. The exhibition’s goal is to engage the community and the public, promoting awareness and behavioral change.
