Aging in Place

Learn how to keep your home (or your parents’) safe and accessible to enhance independent living. Gain tips for designing a living space for aging in place. Rachel Blackwood and Jane Sizemore, co-authors of 365 Tips for Aging in Place, consult with older adults to help them design their living spaces. As partners at Raleigh, North Carolina-based Designing Independence, they are passionate about helping others find ways to optimize their current lifestyle. Rachel Blackwood is a physical therapist who holds a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Alabama and has years of experience as a hospital-based, outpatient, and short-term care therapist. She has taught continuing education courses on accessing functional mobility and fall risk. Jane Sizemore attended East Carolina University to obtain her Master’s in Occupational Therapy. Previously, she practiced occupational therapy in various settings, including acute care, hand therapy, and an outpatient clinic focused on neurological conditions. She is a Senior Home Safety Specialist, a certification for aging in place specialists through Age Safe America, and has earned the Executive Certificate in Home Modification from USC.
