PSS Alberta L. Alston House Revitalizes Fitness Center with Grant from Amazin’ Mets Foundation, Brings More Active Living to Senior Residents

Residents of the PSS Alberta L. Alston House in Corona, Queens, will enjoy a revitalized Fitness Center this year, thanks to a $65,000 grant from the Amazin’ Mets Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the New York Mets.

In addition to modernizing the fitness center with age-friendly fitness technology and equipment, the grant funding will also support specialized trainer-led programming and ongoing maintenance to ensure the center remains a high-quality resource for the residents.

“We are grateful to Alex Cohen and the Amazin’ Mets Foundation for helping bring this important service to our residents,” said James Tse, board president of the Alberta L. Alston House.

The 151-unit affordable apartment building houses a thriving and diverse community of older adults who participate in activities designed to encourage interaction and enrich their lives through new experiences.

The fitness center will expand the on-site social services provided by PSS at the Alberta L. Alston House. Additional activities offered to our residents include painting, crocheting, movement and Zumba classes. In warmer weather, residents grow their own vegetables and flowers in raised garden beds on the spacious grounds. An on-site computer lab offers access to internet and classes.
