Move Shows Confidence in Continued Growth, Expanded Services to NYC Older Adults, Caregivers, Families
NEW YORK – PSS, a 63-year-old multi-service nonprofit agency, announces the purchase of a central Manhattan headquarters office space that will accelerate its ability to build community and expand on its mission to help older New Yorkers, their families, and caregivers thrive for many years to come.
“This is a game-changer for the organization,” says PSS Executive Director Rimas Jasin. “It gives us the space and flexibility to address community needs on a deeper level. We look forward to hosting important meetings and conversations in our new headquarters as we continue to be an innovative leader in the New York City aging services community.”
The 4.000-square-foot space occupies the entire third floor of 147 East 48th Street and will allow the agency’s growing staff of 115 and volunteer pool of 200+, which work at numerous sites and in the field across all five boroughs, to convene in a central hub for regular in-person programming, training and development.
PSS administration has worked since its inception from space donated by the Rutgers Presbyterian Church that served as its headquarters. The agency was founded in 1962 by volunteers from the New York Presbytery as Presbyterian Senior Services to address the needs of their aging church members. Today PSS is a non-sectarian, non-denominational independent 501 (c) ( 3) organization. The physical move into its own space reflects the agency’s evolution.
PSS serves nearly 2,000 individuals daily throughout all five boroughs and reached close to 25,000 last year through its e-newsletters, outreach events, and community education programs. Its $13 million budget is funded by NYC Department for the Aging, NYS Department of Health, grants from foundations such as The Fan Fox and Leslie R. Samuels Foundation, the Pinkerton Foundation, Consumer Technology Association Foundation, community-based organizations, and private donors.
In addition to 10 Older Adult Centers in the Bronx and Upper Manhattan, PSS also operates a commercial kitchen in Throggs Neck, and two residences, one in Corona, Queens and the second in the Bronx. PSS Case Management operates from an office in Co-op City, while NY Connects Brooklyn from an office in Flatbush.
The new midtown PSS headquarters will officially open in April.
