PSS Manhattanville Center was originally housed in the Riverside Park Community housing complex which opened in 1975. A small group of retired residents who were congregants from the Church of St. Joseph of the Holy Family located at 401 West 125 Street and Morningside Avenue in Harlem formed an older adult social club in the building for the retirees. Shortly after that the club secured funding from HRA and local politicians to start a senior center for the retired residents in the building and provided recreational activities and lunch. Hence, Manhattanville senior center was born and available to adults 60 and over in the building and throughout the community.
In July of 2016, PSS assumed management of this vital center, and in October we moved to our new location on W. 13rd street. PSS Manhattanville serves individuals 60 years of age and older by providing educational, recreational and social activities as well as physical health, health management, case assistance, and advocacy. We are sponsored by PSS and funded by NYC Department for the Aging (DFTA). Our members enjoy a welcoming environment that feels like a “Home away from Home.” Our motto: “Youth is a gift of Nature Age is a work of Art”.
PSS-Manhattanville is located between Old Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue, easily accessible by the M4, M5, and M11 bus to 135th street and the #1 train to 137th street and walk two blocks south.
