In it’s study “Aging in the Shadows, an Update on Social Isolation Among Older Adults in NYC,” United Neighborhood Houses notes that caregiving can contribute to social isolation: “Though it may seem counterintuitive, being a caregiver of an older adult can lead to higher rates of isolation and depression,especially among caregivers of individuals with dementia.Caregivers often experience the disruption of their previous activities and habits, which can lead to a disruption in their level of social integration.” Click here for the full report.
